THE FIRESIDE JOURNAL

BE BRAVE.  BE KIND.  BE FREE.

We are storytellers:

The Fireside Journal is a multi-media production company based in Milwaukee, WI.

We venture where few are willing to go, to tell the stories that are often left untold:

Started in Spring of 2017, The Fireside Journal's content focuses primarily on human interest topics in remote and austere environments.

Our motto, Be brave. Be kind. Be free., is also our message:

It guides the way we live our lives and the content we create.

Mosul, Iraq: Humanitarian Service Under Fire

In Spring of 2017, Ephraim Mattos and Zebulun Mattos embarked on The Fireside Journal's first major project when they embedded with the Free Burma Rangers (FBR) in Northern Iraq.  Their mission was to actively assist in the humanitarian mission of FBR and also document the experience of the aide workers and the suffering of the Iraqi people.  When the invasion of West Mosul kicked off, they were caught in the middle of the bloodiest urban battle since WWII.  Both brothers would narrowly escape death as they struggled to save lives and never let the story be forgotten.  See their stories on Instagram and Facebook.

Two Worlds: The Human Experience

In Winter of 2017, The Fireside Journal began filming a documentary mini-series starring Ephraim Mattos and Benton Bohannon as humanitarian adventurers.  The series will be focused on showing both the good and bad sides of the human experience. Follow from filthy slums to pristine mountain tops as Ephraim and Benton cross the globe on an unforgettable humanitarian journey through darkness and light.

The Fireside Journal production team will be sharing the filming experience on social media.  Follow along on Instagram and Facebook.
