The Brothers Mattos
May 7th, 2017
Today was a good day.
After sitting around the day before in the rear, I was able to do an early morning run to the front to deliver a breakfast of hard boiled eggs and food supplies to the frontline team. My brother Ephraim was there. He said he hadn’t slept much over the past three days of fighting and neither had the other members of the team. They had been engaged with ISIS the entire day before and throughout the night.
Iraqis of the 36th brigade sit around in the background making jokes and laughing. We posed for this picture together just before I went back into the rear.
Today, I was feeling especially sappy and grateful to be working alongside my brother and helping fight back evil. It was a good day.
